World Animal Day: Animal-Friendly Museum

World Animal Day

Starting on  October 4thWorld Animal Day. This science and technology center will now officially become an  Animal-Friendly Museum, extending to 365 days a year an event that has taken place on that special date since 2014.

World Animal Day

“Eight years ago, we first invited the public to visit us with their pets on World Animal Day. Celebrating the date with activities on the anatomy, behavior, and diet of various species. The idea came about after we received a visit from Happy that Summer. A dog of Portuguese descent who came on holiday to Portugal and accompanied his family on their visit to the Pavilhão do Conhecimento. Since then, we have always celebrated Animal Day by allowing pets to enter. And later we created the Canine Passport program. Which consisted of opening the Pavilion to our visitors’ dogs on the first Sunday of each month. Now that the pandemic is under control, we have decided to assume the status of an ‘Animal-Friendly Museum’. Allowing them to enter all year round, while naturally ensuring compliance with all hygiene and safety rules provided for by law”.

With thePet-Friendly Museum” stamp, the Knowledge Pavilion also hopes to raise public awareness of the importance of consciously adopting animals and choosing breeds without pedigrees over wild species.

A station will be installed in the Ticket Office area to identify and control the animals. Check their registration, and explain the rules of conduct in the museum, which are subject to Regulation. Each animal will receive a PATAporte which guarantees entry into the museum. In the outdoor area, there will be several water points for the animals to drink.

The Pavilion’s program will include activities to help owners get to know their pets better. As for them, they will discover that science is not such a difficult nut to crack after all.
